Howetown Ice Harvest

Come join us at the Howetown Farm Show grounds in Sterling, PA on Saturday, February 2 for an old fashioned ice harvest. See how our ancestors cut and preserved ice in the winter for use during the hot summer months.  Ice blocks are cut by hand from the pond and then taken by sled to the ice house with a team of horses.   The ice will be packed tightly in sawdust or straw and will last long into the summer.

The ice cutting will begin around 11:00 a.m. and continue until the ice house is full.   There is no admission charge for this event and parking is free – just come and enjoy a day reliving the past.  Light refreshments will be available.

We are also hoping to present an ice sculpting demonstration.

Remember, this is an all-outdoor event, so please wear sturdy boots and dress warmly.

The Howetown Farm Show Grounds are located on Route 196 in Sterling, PA adjacent to Gas Hollow Road.  For more information, please call 570-595-0452.
